Constaffel

from 1336 · 14th century

The Constaffel was the corporation of the nobility, knights, rentiers and leading merchants of Zürich, created by Rudolf Brun's constitution of 1336 alongside the craft guilds. It sent members to the city's Small and Large Councils and was the political home of the old patrician families. It survives today as a social society that takes part in the Sechseläuten festival.
