Coppergate
Coppergate is a street in the centre of York, England, whose name comes from the Old Norse for street of the cup-makers. Excavations there by the York Archaeological Trust from 1976 to 1981 uncovered the waterlogged remains of houses, workshops and many thousands of objects from Viking-age Jorvik. They showed a crowded town of craftsmen and traders, and led to the opening of the Jorvik Viking Centre on the site in 1984.
