County Monaghan
County Monaghan is an inland county in the province of Ulster in the Republic of Ireland, with its county town at Monaghan. It was the heart of the MacMahon lordship of Oriel, the last part of the kingdom of Airgialla. After the execution of Hugh Roe MacMahon in 1590, the English divided the lordship among MacMahon chiefs in 1591, establishing the county. It is known for its drumlin hills and small lakes.
