County Mayo
County Mayo is a county in the province of Connacht, in the west of Ireland, with Castlebar as its county town. It includes Croagh Patrick, the pilgrimage mountain, and Achill Island. Ruled in the late Middle Ages by the Lower Mac William Burkes and the O'Malleys of Clew Bay, it was shired in 1585, and in 1798 a French force landed at Killala on its coast.
