Croatian Peasant Party

1904– · 20th century

The Croatian Peasant Party is a Croatian political party founded in 1904 by the brothers Antun and Stjepan Radić. Between the world wars it was the main voice of Croatian opposition to Serbian-dominated centralism in Yugoslavia, and after Stjepan Radić was shot in parliament in 1928 it was led by Vladko Maček. In 1939 Maček's agreement with the prime minister Dragiša Cvetković created the autonomous Banovina of Croatia.
