Daji

11th century BCE · 11th century BCE · Also known as Su Daji

Daji was the favourite consort of Di Xin, last king of the Shang dynasty, in traditional Chinese histories. Later writers portrayed her as a cruel woman whose influence led the king into tyranny and brought about the fall of the dynasty, and the Ming novel Investiture of the Gods made her a fox spirit. Historians regard these stories as largely the work of Zhou and later moralists.
