Dakshinapatha
Dakshinapatha, the southern road, was the ancient Indian name for the trade route running from the Ganges plain south-west to the Deccan, and for the southern lands it reached. Mentioned in Buddhist texts, it linked cities such as Shravasti and Ujjain with Pratishthana on the Godavari. The name later came to mean the Deccan as a whole, and the word Deccan derives from it.
