Della Rovere

Also known as House of della Rovere

The della Rovere were a family from Savona in Liguria that rose through the Church. Francesco della Rovere became Pope Sixtus IV (1471–1484) and his nephew Giuliano became Pope Julius II (1503–1513). Through adoption and papal backing, Francesco Maria I della Rovere became Duke of Urbino in 1508, and the family ruled Urbino until the death of Francesco Maria II in 1631.
