Dendera Temple complex

1st century BCE · 1st century BCE · Also known as Temple of Hathor at Dendera

The Dendera Temple complex lies on the west bank of the Nile near Qena in Upper Egypt. Its main temple, dedicated to the goddess Hathor, was begun in the last decades of the Ptolemaic period, under Ptolemy XII, and completed under Roman emperors. It is one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt, famous for its painted ceilings, a relief of Cleopatra VII and the Dendera zodiac.
