Dénia

Also known as Denia

Dénia is a port town on the Mediterranean coast of the province of Alicante, Spain. In the 11th century it was the capital of the maritime taifa of Mujahid al-Amiri, which ruled the Balearic Islands, raided Sardinia and was known for Quranic scholarship. It fell to the Crown of Aragon in 1244 and later gave its title to the marquises of Dénia, among them the Duke of Lerma, favourite of Philip III.
