Dial Diop
Dial Diop was a Lebou Muslim leader of the Cape Verde peninsula, in present-day Senegal, who led the revolt against the kingdom of Cayor in the 1790s. After repelling Cayor's forces, the Lebou established an independent republic around 1795, with Dial Diop as its first serigne. The Lebou Republic kept its autonomy until French colonisation in the 19th century.
