Diyar Mudar
Diyar Mudar is the medieval Arabic name for the western part of the Jazira, the upper Mesopotamian region along the Euphrates and the Balikh, named after the Mudar tribes settled there in early Islamic times. Its main towns included Raqqa, Harran, Edessa and Saruj. In the 10th and 11th centuries it was contested by the Hamdanids, the Numayrid Bedouin and the Byzantines.
