Donnubán mac Cathail
Donnubán mac Cathail was king of the Uí Fidgenti, in what is now County Limerick, in the later 10th century. Allied with Ivar, the Norse king of Limerick, he took part in the capture of Mathgamain, king of Munster, who was handed over to his enemies and killed in 976. Brian Boru avenged his brother, and Donnubán's descendants, the O'Donovans, took their surname from him.
