Earl of Derby

Earl of Derby is a title in the peerage of England held since 1485 by the Stanley family. Thomas Stanley received it from Henry VII after the Battle of Bosworth, and his heirs were also Lords of Mann until 1736. The 7th Earl, James Stanley, held the island for Charles I and was executed in 1651, and later earls included the Victorian prime minister Edward Smith-Stanley, 14th Earl.
