East Aceh Regency

Also known as Aceh Timur

East Aceh is a regency on the north-east coast of Aceh province, at the northern tip of Sumatra, Indonesia. It includes the area of Perlak, where Indonesian tradition places the earliest Muslim sultanate in the archipelago. In the late 20th century it was a stronghold of the Free Aceh Movement during the separatist conflict that ended with the peace agreement of 2005.
