East Pakistan
East Pakistan was the eastern wing of Pakistan from 1955, when East Bengal was renamed, until 1971. Though it held most of Pakistan's population, its people resented political and economic domination by West Pakistan. After the 1970 election and the army's crackdown, the Bangladesh Liberation War ended with its independence as Bangladesh in December 1971.
