Sheikh Hasina

1947– · 20th century

Sheikh Hasina is a Bangladeshi politician, daughter of the founding leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and leader of the Awami League. She was prime minister from 1996 to 2001 and again from 2009 to 2024, the country's longest-serving head of government, a period of fast economic growth and increasingly authoritarian rule. Mass student-led protests forced her to resign and flee to India in August 2024.
