Sheikh Ali Khan of Quba
Sheikh Ali Khan was the last khan of Quba, in present-day north-eastern Azerbaijan, son of Fatali Khan, who had united much of the region. After his father's death in 1789 the union fell apart. Sheikh Ali Khan resisted the Russian advance into the eastern Caucasus, but in 1806 Russia occupied Quba and Derbent; he continued to fight from Dagestan and died in exile.
