Edward Whalley

c. 1607–c. 1675 · 17th century

Edward Whalley was an English Parliamentarian cavalry commander in the Civil War, a cousin of Oliver Cromwell, and one of the judges who signed the death warrant of Charles I in 1649. At the Restoration in 1660 he fled to New England with his son-in-law William Goffe. Sheltered by Puritans in the New Haven Colony and later at Hadley, Massachusetts, they evaded royal agents, and he died in hiding.
