Eresburg
The Eresburg was a Saxon hill fort on the site of modern Obermarsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, above the Diemel valley. Charlemagne captured it in 772 at the start of the Saxon Wars and destroyed the nearby Irminsul, the Saxons' sacred pillar. It changed hands several times during the wars and became a Frankish stronghold and later the site of a church and town.
