Ermine Street

1st century · 1st century

Ermine Street was a major Roman road in Britain running north from London through Lincoln to York, built in the early years after the conquest of 43 CE. It carried troops and supplies to the northern frontier and remained a main route for centuries; much of its line is followed by the modern A1, A10 and A15 roads. Its name is Anglo-Saxon in origin.
