Britannia Superior

3rd century · 3rd century

Britannia Superior was the southern of the two provinces into which Roman Britain was divided in the early third century, governed from Londinium (London) and including the legions at Caerleon and Chester. The division, attributed to Septimius Severus or Caracalla, aimed to stop any single governor controlling all three British legions.
