British Columbia
British Columbia is the westernmost province of Canada, between the Rocky Mountains and the Pacific. Created as a British colony on the mainland in 1858 during the Fraser River gold rush, it was merged with the Colony of Vancouver Island in 1866. It joined Canada in 1871 on the promise of a transcontinental railway, completed in 1885.
