Ernest II, Duke of Swabia
Ernest II (c. 1010–1030) was Duke of Swabia from 1015 and a stepson of Emperor Conrad II. He rebelled against Conrad in 1025–1027, claiming the inheritance of the Kingdom of Burgundy, and was imprisoned. Refusing to act against his ally Werner of Kyburg, he was deposed and outlawed, and both were killed in 1030. His story helped inspire the medieval epic Herzog Ernst.
