Essaouira
Essaouira, known to Europeans as Mogador, is a port city on the Atlantic coast of Morocco. Sultan Mohammed ben Abdallah founded the present town in 1760 as a royal trading port, laid out by the French engineer Théodore Cornut within strong sea walls. It became Morocco's main port for European trade in the 19th century, and its medina is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
