Etelköz

Also known as Atelkouzou

Etelköz was the land between the Dnieper and the lower Danube, north of the Black Sea, where the Hungarians lived in the 9th century before their conquest of the Carpathian Basin. It is named in Constantine VII's De Administrando Imperio. Around 895 attacks by the Pechenegs and the Bulgarians drove the Hungarians west across the Carpathians.
