Étienne Regnault
Étienne Regnault was the first commandant of Île Bourbon, now Réunion, sent by the French East India Company in 1665 with a small group of colonists. Their settlement at Saint-Paul began the island's permanent population, later joined by survivors from Fort-Dauphin on Madagascar. He governed the colony until 1671, laying the foundation of what became a French plantation island.
