Fabian strategy
A Fabian strategy is a military approach that avoids decisive pitched battles and instead wears down an enemy through attrition, delay and the destruction of supplies. It is named after the Roman general Quintus Fabius Maximus. Peter the Great's use of such a strategy against Charles XII proved fatal to the Swedish Empire, whose offensive military culture could not adapt.
