Narva
Narva is a city in north-eastern Estonia on the Narva river, which forms the border with Russia. A trading town of Danish Estonia from the 13th century, it passed to the Teutonic Order in 1346, was held by Russia from 1558 and by Sweden from 1581. Charles XII defeated Peter the Great there in 1700, but Russia took it in 1704. Its Hermann Castle faces the Russian fortress of Ivangorod across the river.
