Fabrizio Ruffo

1744–1827 · 18th century

Fabrizio Ruffo (1744–1827) was a Neapolitan cardinal and politician. In 1799 he landed in Calabria with a handful of followers and raised the Army of the Holy Faith, which overthrew the Parthenopean Republic and restored Ferdinand IV. The surrender terms he granted to the republicans in Naples were set aside by Nelson and the king, and many leaders of the republic were executed.
