Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front

1980– · 20th century · Also known as FMLN

The Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) was formed in October 1980 as a coalition of five Salvadoran left-wing guerrilla organisations and named after the communist leader Farabundo Martí. It fought the government in the civil war of 1980–1992, which ended with the Chapultepec Peace Accords. It then became a legal political party and held the presidency from 2009 to 2019.
