Chapultepec Peace Accords
The Chapultepec Peace Accords were signed in Chapultepec Castle in Mexico City on 16 January 1992 by the government of El Salvador and the FMLN, after negotiations under United Nations mediation. They ended the twelve-year Salvadoran civil war, reduced and reformed the army, abolished the old security forces, created a National Civil Police and turned the FMLN into a legal party.
