Salvadoran Civil War
The Salvadoran Civil War was fought from 1979 to 1992 between the military-led government of El Salvador, backed by the United States, and the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front, a coalition of left-wing guerrilla groups. More than 75,000 people died, many in massacres of civilians such as El Mozote. The Chapultepec Peace Accords of 1992 ended the war and turned the FMLN into a political party.
