d. c. 1504 · 15th century

Fathullah Imad-ul-Mulk was the founder of the Imad Shahi dynasty of Berar. Born a Hindu in the lands of Vijayanagara, he was captured as a boy, converted to Islam and rose in Bahmani service to become governor of Berar. Around 1490, as the Bahmani Sultanate broke apart, he declared independence, ruling from Ellichpur and creating the smallest of the Deccan sultanates.
