Berar
Berar is a historical region of central India, now the western part of the Vidarbha division of Maharashtra, around Amravati and Akola. A fertile cotton-growing plain, it was a province of the Bahmani Sultanate, an independent sultanate from about 1490 to 1574, a Mughal province and then part of the Nizam of Hyderabad's lands. The Nizam assigned it to the British in 1853, and it was later joined to the Central Provinces.
