Vidarbha

Vidarbha is the eastern region of Maharashtra state in India, around Nagpur and Amravati. An ancient kingdom of that name appears in the Mahabharata and other Sanskrit literature. Historically it was the heartland of the Vakataka dynasty and later passed under the Bahmani Sultanate, the Berar Sultanate, the Mughals and the Bhonsle rajas of Nagpur. It is known for cotton growing and a long-running movement for separate statehood.
