Feidlimid mac Crimthainn

d. 847 · 9th century

Feidlimid mac Crimthainn was king of Munster from 820 to 847 and also a churchman, counted as an abbot and bishop. He raided great monasteries such as Clonmacnoise and Kildare and challenged the Uí Néill, pressing a claim to be high king of Ireland. The Irish annals record both his violence against churches and his reputation for learning and piety.
