O'Brien dynasty

Also known as Uí Briain, Ua Briain

The O'Brien dynasty, in Irish Uí Briain, was a royal family of Munster descended from Brian Boru of the Dál gCais. From the 11th century they ruled as kings of Munster and later of Thomond, with Limerick as their chief seat, and Muirchertach Ua Briain claimed the high kingship of Ireland. In 1543 Murrough O'Brien submitted to Henry VIII and became Earl of Thomond.
