Fergus of Galloway
Fergus of Galloway was the first known Lord of Galloway in south-west Scotland, rising to power in the early 12th century and styled king in some sources. He married an illegitimate daughter of Henry I of England, founded religious houses such as Soulseat and Whithorn Priory, and revived the bishopric of Whithorn. After a failed revolt against Malcolm IV he retired to Holyrood Abbey in 1160.
