Norse–Gaels

Also known as Gall-Ghàidheil, Gall-Gaedil, Norse-Gaels, Gallgaels, Gall-Gaidheil

The Norse–Gaels were people of mixed Scandinavian and Gaelic descent and culture who emerged in Ireland, the Hebrides and western Scotland from the 9th century. They dominated the Kingdom of the Isles and the Isle of Man, and their Gaelic name, Gall-Ghàidheil, survives in Galloway. Rulers such as Godred Crovan and Somerled came from this world.
