Fianarantsoa
Fianarantsoa is a city in the southern highlands of Madagascar and the main town of the Betsileo region. It was founded in 1830 by the Merina queen Ranavalona I as an administrative centre to control the conquered Betsileo, and it became a centre of education, Christianity and wine-making. A railway links it to Manakara on the east coast.
