First War of Scottish Independence

1296–1328 · 13th century

The First War of Scottish Independence was fought between Scotland and England from Edward I's invasion in 1296 to the Treaty of Edinburgh–Northampton in 1328. Led by William Wallace and later Robert the Bruce, who won at Stirling Bridge (1297) and Bannockburn (1314), the Scots resisted English conquest, and England finally recognised Scottish independence under Bruce.
