Battle of Stirling Bridge

1297 · 13th century · Part of the First War of Scottish Independence

The Battle of Stirling Bridge was fought on 11 September 1297, when Scottish forces under William Wallace and Andrew Moray destroyed an English army under the Earl of Surrey as it crossed the narrow bridge over the River Forth. The victory revived Scottish resistance to Edward I, but Edward defeated Wallace at Falkirk the following year.
