Battle of Flodden

1513 · 16th century · Also known as Battle of Flodden Field · Part of the War of the League of Cambrai

The Battle of Flodden was fought on 9 September 1513 in Northumberland, where an English army under the Earl of Surrey destroyed the invading Scottish army of James IV, who had attacked England in support of his French ally. James IV was killed together with many of his nobles and clergy, the heaviest defeat in Scottish history, and the crown passed to his infant son James V.
