Florida Parishes
The Florida Parishes are eight parishes of south-eastern Louisiana lying east of the Mississippi River and north of Lake Pontchartrain. Formerly part of Spanish West Florida, the area rebelled as the Republic of West Florida in 1810, was annexed by the United States the same year and joined the state of Louisiana in 1812.
