Francesco Crispi
Francesco Crispi was an Italian statesman, a Sicilian veteran of Garibaldi's Expedition of the Thousand, who was prime minister in 1887–1891 and 1893–1896. He pursued a strong executive, close ties with Germany and colonial expansion in East Africa, and harshly suppressed the Sicilian Fasci movement. He fell from power after Italy's defeat by Ethiopia at Adwa in 1896.
