Franco-Flemish War (1297–1305)
The Franco-Flemish War was fought from 1297 to 1305 between Philip IV of France and Guy of Dampierre, Count of Flanders. France occupied Flanders, but the Flemish towns revolted and defeated the French knights at the Battle of the Golden Spurs at Courtrai in 1302; after the French victory at Mons-en-Pévèle (1304), the Treaty of Athis-sur-Orge (1305) imposed heavy terms on Flanders while leaving it autonomous.
