Kortrijk
Kortrijk, in French Courtrai, is a city on the Lys (Leie) river in West Flanders, Belgium. A Roman settlement and a medieval centre of the flax and linen trade, it is known for the Battle of the Golden Spurs, fought outside its walls in 1302, when Flemish militias defeated French knights. Its Broel towers and belfry recall its medieval importance.
