Franco-Spanish War (1635–1659)

1635–1659 · 17th century

The Franco-Spanish War was fought from 1635 to 1659 between France and Habsburg Spain. It began when France under Cardinal Richelieu entered the Thirty Years' War, continued after the Peace of Westphalia, and was ended by the Treaty of the Pyrenees (1659), which gave France Roussillon and Artois and marked the passing of dominance in western Europe from Spain to France.
