Franco-Siamese War
The Franco-Siamese War was a brief conflict in 1893 between France and the Kingdom of Siam over the Lao lands east of the Mekong. After French gunboats forced their way up the Chao Phraya to Bangkok in the Paknam incident in July, Siam accepted a treaty in October ceding the territory east of the Mekong, which France organised as the protectorate of Laos.
